Why "double happiness?" ![]()
This Chinese character is common at Chinese weddings to symbolize "union" and comes from a Tang dynasty story. The original character symbolizes happiness as a combination of drumming and laughter.
At the superficial level, the symbol points to those happy, blissful sensations felt during and after receiving bodywork or massage. On a deeper level, double happiness points to the union of the mind and body: the mind being calmed by the body, and the body being calmed by the mind. It also refers to the intimate connection between the internal world of the body and the external work being done on the body. Good bodywork will point the receiver in the right direction for taking care of the body from the inside out, not just the outside in. The receiver learns news ways the address and heal from the information gained from the session.
The foundations of Robert's bodywork are Esalen, Thai, Breema, Reiki, Acupressure, and Swedish massage. At the heart of Esalen massage is a sense of empowerment for regaining your harmony, reverence, and balance for awakening your inner sources of healing and relaxation. Esalen Massage was developed at the Esalen Institute, the world-renowned venue for bodywork on the edge of the Pacific Ocean in Big Sur.
Robert will use long flowing strokes on your body in harmony with the rhythm of the ocean waves of the Pacific, where Esalen Massage was born. This work is done slowly. Your will experience gentle pressure at first, and the pressure may slowly build as your body warms. Although some aspects of the bodywork may be quite deep, the work is comforting, nurturing, and healing - all with a conscious, listening touch. At various points during the work, there will be a pause for integrating the strokes - just as rest notes are used to integrate a piece of music. These pauses help you go deeper into relaxation by giving the your body a chance to process the strokes. The work also includes joint manipulation, Thai stretches, Swedish techniques, and palm presses.
This holistic massage is a great way to get back in touch with your body, to feel its natural rhythms again as old patterns of tension begin to break free.
****Note: Robert uses only hand made, organic massage cream on your body. Just water, oil, and organic essential oils. The skin is just a membrane, and most commercial massage lotions contain parabins or their substitutes (like Germol, for example) that are not good for you. Enjoy your massage with Robert knowing that he is taking care of you.
